"What's wrong with the world?" "I am." - The Times and Gilbert Keith Chesterton.
Here are 3 things to do before we kick the bucket - 3 ways to change the world, starting with ourselves.
1. Be a poor judge to others but an excellent critique to yourself. My cousin once told me, "everything you see in others is a reflection of who you are inside". I soon came to realise that every time I judged another for being weak hearted, it was myself I hated for being weak hearted. Every time I judged another for being rough and unlady-like, it was myself whom I hated for being rough and unlady-like. It was myself I had been critisising all along. And I realised, it was time I started forgiving myself. Don't confuse forgiving and giving up. See we're all black pots (calling everyone else black kettles). No, let's just open our hearts to the world. "If instead of showing strength by spending billions on weapons of war, the West was to build a mosque on Ground Zero, it would be a remarkable symbol of our understanding of the Islamic point of view. It would be a major step towards world peace." -Paul Arden in his book God Explained in a Taxi Ride.
2. Say what you need to say. Be honest. No one deserves it more than you do. Be honest to yourselves. And start now! Write your letters NOW, talk it out NOW. Being a Hindu, I am thought to remember death. When you think of it, how relevant are your petty problems now? "Have no fear for giving in. Have no fear for giving over. You'd better know that in the end, it's better to say too much than to never say what you need to say again... Say what you need to say." -John Mayers.
3. Chant your gratitude mantra. "A single word of thank you sent up to heaven is the most powerful prayer of all." I'm thankful I received that life-changing quote! Create a Rainy Day list - a list of all the good things that's happened in your life. Whenever you feel down and blue, simply take out your list and read it again! Last thanksgiving, my group of friends and I decided to play this game. Each of us made 4 red ribbons, each had the inscriptions "YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE." Each of us thought of 1 person who had touched our lives, pasted the ribbon on his chest, and asked him to do the same with the 3 ribbons left. I leave it to you to imagine the invarious outcomes.
This is Laveena Kukanesan writing to you for Antara TV. I hope you had a good read! Don’t forget to give me your side of the story!
Til next time!
